Design & Artwork

What types of file can I send to Ohm Graphics?

We recommend saving as a .PDF. You may also send the exact size file in the following type: jpg, jpeg, tif, tiff, eps, and png. We prefer that you send .PDF with embedded images and outlined fonts. .PDF's are easier to handle and will likely speed up your turnaround. Remember to flatten your files & add appropriate bleeds before uploading.

What colour mode should my files be?

If you send us an RGB file, there is a chance that a colour shift may occur and you may not be satisfied with your job. You should always start and finish your designs in CMYK colour mode.

What resolution should my files be?

Low resolution files may be printed as is or will be placed on hold until we receive new files, slowing your turn-around. We recommend only 300 dpi files and no less.

How should I set up my bleeds?

Bleed must extend past the final size artboard and will be trimmed from the product during the final cutting phase. When the image is required to extend all the way to the edge, bleed is needed to preserve the finished look and the quality of the final product. Please keep all text at least 0.125" inside the final size artboard. - The bleed for Standard Products is 0.125". - The bleed for Booklets and Presentation Folders is 0.25". - For Large Format Products such as banners, wall graphics, window graphics, etc., please provide 0.25" all around.

I love borders on my designs, is it going to be a problem?

Yes. Borders are an issue because all substrates will vary from batch to batch and if the border is too close to the cutline, it may be cut off-centre slightly, making exact cuts very difficult. We recommend that you do not design your file with a border. If you do, Ohm Graphics Inc. will not reprint an order with borders of varying widths or off-centre. If you absolutely must have a border make it at least 2 inches in thickness, however Ohm Graphics Inc. still does not recommend borders.

How can I avoid transparency issues?

Any transparency issue can be resolved before saving your file. To prevent transparency issues, never use shadows, glows, or any other transparency (image or otherwise) on top of a spot colour. Always convert your spot colour to CMYK and flatten before sending.

Should I send a proof or sample file?

When sending artwork, do not send extra files, like proofs or samples, because they might get printed. Only send the files you need printed.We are not responsible for these kinds of files being printed. Unless requested by one of our employees, DO NOT send files that you do not want printed.

What is overprint & how can it ruin my files?

Primarily used to intentionally overlap inks for a number of reasons, overprint can cause unexpected results. We suggest that you turn all overprint objects off before submitting your files. If the logo was set to overprint on background, then colours from logo are mixing with the colours from the background. Unexpected results may occur if you have accidentally set certain objects to overprint. Always check logos and other artwork before submitting.

Can I submit a front and back designs in the same file?

No. We are now specifically set up to process one side at a time, and this requires that each side of a job must be on a separate file. Not separating files will cause delays and you might have to send the files again. Remember to separate the pages of your .pdf files as well.

How do I make sure my blues do not come out as purple?

When using a blue in your design, always make sure to leave at least a 30% difference in your Cyan and Magenta values. Blue is close to purple in the CMYK spectrum. Remember, use a low amount of magenta whenever using high amounts of cyan to avoid purple. EXAMPLE: C-100 M-70 Y-0 K-0.

How do I export a .pdf correctly?

You must convert all colors to CMYK and outline all fonts before saving your file. When exporting from any program such as Indesign or Illustrator, use these settings to make sure your .PDF files export correctly. Adobe PDF Preset is set to: Press Quality. Compatibility is set to: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3) Compress Text and Line Art is set to: Off

How do I get grayscale image in a CMYK documents?

Grayscale images that are converted to CMYK will have a colour shift in the final print. That shift may be green or yellow. Always check the CMYK values of your grayscale in the final CMYK document. If there are other values other than K in your grayscale image, there is a chance that the color will vary. To eliminate all values other than K, use your Channel Mixer (adjustment layer) in Photoshop, then click "Monochrome" and adjust accordingly.

What is rich black and how can I get it?

Rich black is an ink mixture of solid black, 100% K, with additional CMY ink values. This results in a darker tone than black ink alone. If you print black alone as 100% K, the resulting black may not be as dark as you might like. We recommend using C 60 M 40 Y 40 K 100 This will give you a deep, dark, rich black. *Products that are printed with dye-sublimation (Premium Polyester Banner, Flags, Table Covers, Fabric Tube Displays, Tents, etc.) call for the following colour values: C 100 M 100 Y 100 K 100.

How do I upload my artwork?

Please select "I have print ready artwork" option on product page and use "choose a file" link to upload your print ready artwork. If your file is too big to be uploaded using that link, please place your order and transfer your file using wetransfer to our email: artworkohmgraphics@gmail.com. You must mention the order reference number with your artwork. Also please let us know if you require a proof sent to you as Ohm Graphics Inc. will only contact you if revisions or clarifications must be made.

Products & Production

Which program do you recommend for best quality output for my order?

While it is not mandatory, we prefer Adobe formats (such as PDF) - if you're using a program outside of Adobe, it will have to be exported from whichever program is being used as one of the following file types - PDF, JPG, or TIF - prior to uploading.

What is the difference between raster & vector?

Raster based artwork such as photos, or flattened artwork (from Adobe Photoshop) are made up of tiny squares (pixels) and depending on your resolution and/or final output size desired, the file could have a low quality end result. Any raster elements you wish to use should have a high enough resolution (DPI) before considering them for your large format product. Vector based artwork such as illustrations or clip-art style elements (from Adobe Illustrator) is made with mathematical calculations, and can be scaled up to any size without losing quality. Keep in mind that any effects used in Adobe Illustrator are raster based and have transparency - this greatly adds to file size and you must have correct settings in your "Document Raster Effects Settings" to ensure best output for these effects. If you're doing a photo-quality print on a 36" x 48" poster, and leave the raster effects settings at default 72 DPI - you may see tiny squares in your drop shadows, as opposed to a smooth shadow.

Do you print using spot or Pantone colours?

We only print 4 color process (CMYK). If you use Spot or Pantone colors, please have them converted to process colors prior to uploading your file.

Why is there cracking on my scoring job?

When a job is coated with UV then scored and folded the job may begin to crack. During use, the cracks will become bigger and the ink may start to chip off. Cracking is normal when coated jobs are scored and folded. Ordering the job without UV will help but may not prevent this. As the job is used and folded more and more, cracking will eventually happen.

What size are your grommets? How far apart do you typically place them?

We use #2 grommets, they are 3/8". Grommets are placed in all 4 corners, and from there they will be placed every 2ft and 1ft as necessary.

Why does it take so long to upload files?

Files sizes for large format can be monstrous, chances are your file may take longer than your typical business card file. Your file size and your network connection are the two main factors affecting upload speed.

How can you offer such low prices?

Most printing companies run individual jobs on one sheet. We will utilize the maximum square inch of the sheet by impositioning jobs together dispersing the fixed cost of a job between several projects and then we pass the savings on to you.

How should I care for and store my 30mil Car Magnets?

Magnets are not always shipped flat, so it is highly recommended to lay them flat on the hood or roof of your car in the sun for a couple of hours before use. This will help evaporate any moisture build-up that accrued during shipment, if any, and it will help your magnets maintain a flat profile. You may want to keep them in a flat box or on a flat surface at all times and only handle them when cleaning and installing, to help maintain their flatness. We recommend you keep your magnets clean on both sides, as well as the placement area on your car door or area of your choosing must also be clean and free of oils, dust, dirt, and other build-up. It's a good idea to take your magnets inside your home or garage away from the elements and lay them flat in a cool dry place, while not in use. You can clean your magnets with a soft moist cotton cloth with water, no abrasive cleaners. It's recommended that you do not stand them up on their side, as they may wilt and might not lay completely flat on the surface of your car door after wilting. These suggestions are to help the longevity of your magnets. Clean and dry metal surface before applying magnet. Choose rounded corners for stronger magnetic grip. Remove magnet before a car wash. Remove and clean magnet regularly.

What is the best way to install my large format order?

Ohm Graphics Inc. recommends professional installation for all of its products. Please take care when ordering any large format product. Take into consideration where the product will be placed and stresses it may be subjected to, such as wind. Ohm Graphics Inc. stands behind all of its products and will QC all orders to the best of its ability but Ohm Graphics Inc. will not be held responsible for damages resulting from improper installation or use. All warranty is void when product is used in extreme weather conditions.

How do I apply the Wall Graphics to the surface I want and what are the recommended surfaces?

Wall Graphics are cut to size and remain on a paper backing, ready to peal off and place on any surface of your choice. Wall Graphics are perfectly suited for surfaces like walls, desks, laptops, and glass. Before applying, clean the surface area with a damp cloth and allow it to fully dry. If any dirt or dust particles remain on your surface before placing your Wall Graphic - this may stick to the low-tack adhesive and reduce the number of times you can re-apply your Wall Graphic. If you need to clean your Wall Graphic, we recommend you clean it with a soft, damp non-destructive cloth. Do not use soap, or any other abrasive cleaning agent, as it may affect the printed surface. We don't recommend cleaning the adhesive side, as this may breakdown your Wall Graphic's ability to stick to surfaces, rendering it unusable for its intended purpose. Wall graphics are not recommended for outdoor applications or for vehicles.

Are you using archival inks for your Canvas banner / Mounted Canvas products?

We are not currently using archival media or inks for our prints.

Are there special concerns when ordering Mounted Canvas?

Torquing of stretched canvas may occur to mounted canvas due to climatic changes such as temperature, humidity, or other changing environmental conditions. The stretcher bars are made of wood and are vulnerable to changes in humidity. It is recommended that stretched canvas print be kept in a stable climate controlled environment to minimize torquing. These issues maybe more prevalent in coastal locations and near large bodies of water where temperature and humidity levels are constantly changing.

Do your outdoor banners come seamed in one or more pieces?

Depending on size and other production variables your banner may be produced in multiple pieces that are seamed together. This production variable is to our discretion.

What are flags and how do I set them up?

Artwork for Edge, Feather and Teardrop Flags: Text and graphics should be placed at least 0.5" from the edge of the hem for safety. Artwork cannot be wrapped around the pole, hence keep important elements clear of the pole pocket seam and the hems. Bleed: ensure you have 0.5" on all sides of your artwork, do not add crops. Our flags are printed using superior quality dye sublimation equipment on lightweight 3oz polyester. Pole Flags have an additional Reinforced Grommet Strip made of canvas on either the left or right side of the flag for wind resistance. The 3oz polyester flag material is flame resistant under normal conditions. Avoid exposure to open flame and exceedingly high temperatures. Avoid exposure to strong oxidizers, bases, and acids. The actual flag pole hardware is the height advertised, however the installed flag will be shorter depending on installation, stand type and the tension applied to the fabric and cord. Edge/Feather/Teardrop Flags have the option to include indoor or outdoor hardware. The flag material will be neatly folded and packed in a flexible bag. The hardware comes in a black travel bag. Both items will be carton packed together. Assembly is required. Each order is shipped with assembly guide.

What are Telescopic Backdrop Banner Stands and how do I set them up?

Telescopic Backdrop Banner Stands are adjustable backdrops or step and repeat banner stands. Each stand can be adjusted 5-10 feet horizontally, and 3.5-8 feet vertically. We currently offer 96" X 96" (8ft. X8ft.) 13oz scrim vinyl Banner with 4 inch pole pockets on top and bottom with each stand. When Assembled, the Backdrop Banner Stand can be adjusted 5-10 feet horizontally, and 3.5-8 feet vertically. When disassembled, each Backdrop Banner Stand fits into a carry bag. The bag size is approximately 40" X 9" X 3".

What are Custom Canopy Tent and how do I set them up?

Event Tents are the perfect large-scale marketing medium to get noticed at festivals, conventions, trade shows and more. They are printed with UV ink Technology on white 11oz water-repellent fabric. They include 4 fabric panels that can feature up to 4 different designs (one for each side). Each panel is sewn together and set up on a 10’ x 10’ aluminum pop-up canopy tent. Please note: The Tent Fabric material comes in white only. Text and graphics should be placed at least 0.5" from the edge of the cutline for safety. Ohm Graphics Inc. will professionally hand sew the panels together. Ensure you have 0.5" bleed on all sides of your artwork. Do not add crop marks. You have the option to upload up to 4 different designs for each side of the canopy. The frame is designed to easily pop-up and can be set up in less than 10 minutes. We recommend at least two people be involved. A detailed assembly guide is shipped with each order. Our Custom Tents ship in two boxes. One box contains the hardware which weighs 40lbs and measures approximately 63" L x 10.5" W x 10" H. The other box contains the printed tent material which weighs 12lbs and measures approximately 25" L x 19" W x 2.25" H.

Turnaround & Shipping

I have placed an order, when does the production start?

Ohm Graphics Inc. offers convenient turnaround options to ensure your orders are produced as soon as you need them. Turnaround times begin once your order has been successfully submitted, and your artwork has been preflighted. Certain products do not enter production until we receive approval of an electronic proof.

Is shipping time extra on turnaround time? And can there be delays?

Yes, depending on shipping option you choose it may be 1 to 5 business days on specific product turnaround time. All turnaround times are production times and do not include shipping time. Turnaround times are estimates; unforeseen technical issues may result in production delays.

What is a Cut-off time?

Ohm Graphics Inc. has cut-off time 1pm EST that a file needs to be uploaded and approved in order to start production same day. If the file is uploaded and/or approved after 1pm EST, the production turnaround time starts on the next business day.

Can I expedite the turnaround time?

Each product has dedicated turnaround time. If your product has a turnaround time of 4-5 business days and you need to expedite the process, you must contact us prior to placing an order. If we can expedite the process then there will be a rush charge of 25% extra.

Why do some of the shipping charges seem so high?

Due to the large physical size of our products some orders may have higher than expected shipping charges. Unfortunately there is little Ohm Graphics Inc. can do as we are bound by the limitations set forth by our shipper, in this case Canada Post.

How are Canvas Products shipped?

Canvas Banners are rolled and shipped in a cylindrical tube. Mounted Canvas will ship no more than one per box to avoid damage during shipping.

How are Banner products shipped?

Polyester Banners are folded neatly and shipped in either bags or cartons (depending on quantity ordered). While these materials are wrinkle-resistant, light ironing with low heat may be required prior to use. Due to Canada Post shipping restrictions, Vinyl banners that exceed 8' (feet) or 96" (inches) in length will be folded for shipping. These measures are implemented to ensure the most competitive shipping rates.

How are Wall/Window/Floor graphics shipped?

Self adhesive prints such as Wall/Window/Floor graphics are printed with a maximum width of 52" panels and carefully rolled in a cylindrical tube for safe shipping.

The banner arrived with creases or wrinkles because it was folded for shipping. Is it normal?

Folding oversized banners for shipping is a common practice among large format printers, carriers are optimizing the cubic space required to move packages, so odd size shipments are becoming more costly to move through their transportation network and conveyor systems. Our shipping team will use their best judgment when it comes to packing and shipping out your supersized banner. These measures are implemented to ensure the most competitive shipping rates.

Does Ohm Graphics Inc. ship to P.O Box address?

No. Our shipping service will not ship to PO Box addresses.

Does Ohm Graphics Inc. offer split shipment for the same order?

You cannot ship one order to two different places.

Can Ohm Graphics Inc. drop ship a package to my customer?

Yes. We can drop ship a package to your customer(Only in Canada). You need to enter the shipping address of your customer when you place an order. You must contact us as soon as you place your order by filing out our Contact Us form. You must mention the order reference number and state your address. We shall contact you if clarifications must be made.

What type of shipping options are available?

You can choose from the following options: Expedited Parcel, Priority, and Xpresspost.

I am outside of Canada, can you ship to me?

No, at this moment we only ship within Canada.

How do I track my package?

Depending on the shipping option you selected, once Canada Post picks up your order from our facility a tracking number is generated. You are notified as soon as the tracking number is generated and you can keep a track of your shipment on Canada Post website.

Is delivery guaranteed on a specific day?

Please note that all turnaround times are estimates. While Ohm Graphics Inc. will use reasonable efforts to prevent delay of delivery schedules, in no case shall Ohm Graphics Inc. be liable for any consequential or damages resulting from any delay in shipment or delivery. Orders are F.O.B. the Ohm Graphics Inc. Plant, and customer shall have recourse only to its selected courier for any shipping issues. Ohm Graphics Inc. shall not be liable for delays in shipments caused by weather conditions, shipping company delays, international customs issues or any other circumstances.

What happens if a package cannot be delivered to a drop ship address and its returned?

For drop-ship orders, if a package is deemed undeliverable and returned by Canada Post, it will be returned to you (the sender) and not to Ohm Graphics Inc. A return-delivery fee will apply. For more information about returned packages and forwarding services, please visit canadapost.ca.
